Bunun en \u00f6nemli sebeplerinin ba\u015f\u0131nda, internet teknolojilerinin, geri d\u00f6n\u00fc\u015f\u00fcml\u00fc ve di\u011fer medyalar\u0131n \u00f6tesinde son derece k\u0131vrak yap\u0131s\u0131ndan kaynaklan\u0131yor.<br \/>\n\u0130nternet teknolojilerinin _belki de geleneksel medyaya en yak\u0131n olan_ reklam kullan\u0131m y\u00f6ntemi &#8220;&#8221;banner&#8221;&#8221;lar oldu. Bunlar\u0131 geleneksel medyadan tek \u00f6zellik &#8220;&#8221;ad rotation&#8221;&#8221; (reklam \u00e7evirme) teknolojisiydi. Tabii kullan\u0131c\u0131n\u0131n genel tav\u0131r ve ilgi alanlar\u0131n\u0131 belirliyerek hedef kitleye ula\u015fan reklam yap\u0131s\u0131 da, al\u0131\u015f\u0131lagelmi\u015f dinamik web teknolojileri yap\u0131labilir i\u015fler aras\u0131nda yer ald\u0131. Bunun en \u00f6nemli kullan\u0131m alanlar\u0131n\u0131n ba\u015f\u0131nda arama motorlar\u0131 geliyordu. Altavista ziyaret\u00e7inin IP numaras\u0131n\u0131 al\u0131p, hangi \u00fclkeden geldi\u011fini bularak, T\u00fcrkiye&#8217;den y\u00f6nelen IP&#8217;lerin T\u00fcrk\u00e7e sayfa g\u00f6rmesini sa\u011flarken, yahoo kullan\u0131c\u0131s\u0131n\u0131n arad\u0131\u011f\u0131 konu neyse ona y\u00f6nelik bir reklam\u0131n arama kay\u0131tlar\u0131n\u0131n \u00fczerinde bulunmas\u0131 y\u00f6ntemini kulland\u0131. Asl\u0131nda bunlar\u0131n hepsinin alt\u0131ndaki neden daha do\u011fru hedef kitleye reklam\u0131n ula\u015fmas\u0131n\u0131 sa\u011flamakt\u0131. Bu asl\u0131nda reklamc\u0131l\u0131\u011f\u0131n de\u011fi\u015fen y\u00fcz\u00fcn\u00fc anlatan en do\u011fru a\u00e7\u0131klamalardan biridir.<br \/>\nGer\u00e7i tarih i\u00e7inde web siteleri a\u00e7\u0131lmadan, reklamlar\u0131n a\u00e7\u0131lmas\u0131n\u0131 sa\u011flamak, her web sayfas\u0131n\u0131n \u00f6n\u00fcne bir reklam koymak gibi geleneksel y\u00f6ntemler kullan\u0131lm\u0131\u015f olsa da bunlar \u00e7ok ra\u011fbet g\u00f6rmedi.
